Cyclic True Triaxial Tests on Aeolian Sand Considering Initial Shear Effect

Under traffic loading, the soil elements in subgrade are subjected to a complex 3D stress path. To investigate cyclic behavior of desert under initial shear conditions, number true triaxial tests were implemented on aeolian sand from Tengger Desert. A large range levels and different paths (various combinations major intermediate principal stresses) designed experiments. The results show that level significantly influences response, response mode is incremental failure elastic shakedown, while it critical without stress. With increase stress, permanent strain increases first then decreases, with maximum occurring at q0 = 50 kPa. Moreover, by comparing test data paths, found resistance decreases coefficient bcyc. Compared limiting pore pressure criterion, conventional 5% axial criterion may overestimate resistance, leading unsafe evaluation design. Therefore, using relationship between limit ratio condition was investigated decreased linearly when increased.
